Tortillas Blanco

Mark White and his wife April definitely know tortillas, but the irony is, they do not know Spanish! At least this is probably what Hispanic customers think when they visit the tortilla factory and restaurant in North Alabama! Tortillas Blanco started in 2005 in a small building on Frazier Street in downtown Athens, Alabama and has since developed into a flourishing retail business and restaurant. The tortillas and chips at Tortillas Blanco are made fresh on a daily basis and that is what makes them different from all the rest! The owner, Mark White, says that once you taste your first chip you will be hooked instantly! White named his business Tortillas Blanco because blanco means white in Spanish and represents his name.

“The idea of making tortillas came to me through my experience as a young boy traveling with my grandfather on mission trips,” White explained. “My grandfather has played the biggest role in my life.” The Whites make flour tortillas, which you can taste in their restaurant in several savory dishes. Another extremely popular tasty treat homemade at Tortillas Blanco is the cinnamon chips. If you ever visit Athens and stop by Tortillas Blanco, you will find they offer delicious lunch and dinner menus including supper burritos and tacos loaded with steak, chicken, and all the extras.

Tortillas Blanco currently supplies their Blanco's Chips to several stores in North Alabama and the chips are very versatile from the usual salsa and cheese to unique desserts and soups.” Tortillas Blanco has been going strong for three years and White says they are still moving forward.

The White’s have a goal of growing their business to the point that they will have to hire employees and expand to a warehouse. White said his late grandfather, and inspiration, would have been pleased with his business. “He always had strong relationships with the families and preachers he visited in Mexico,” White said. “I think he would be tickled to see me doing this.” To find the location and more information about Tortillas Blanco, please visited the company’s website at www.itsthechips.com or give them a call at 256-230-2330.
