Alabamians love to cook. What better way to start off 2006 than highlighting ‘An Alabama Breakfast’. The Department will kick off our “Alabama Breakfast” campaign in January, so look for this campaign, focusing on quality Alabama products, from now until March. We will promote selected Alabama items and easy recipes that will feature the quality products Alabama families have long relied on to start their day. This month we are highlighting Dean’s Sausage. For North Alabama families, serving Dean’s Sausage has been an everyday staple at the breakfast table for years. Dean Sausage Company first began in 1955 near Gadsden. They primarily sold ground sausage in brick-shaped blocks. Over the years Dean’s has taken on additional lines including patty sausage, biscuits, and combinations of sausage and biscuits and waffles and sausage. Dean Sausage Company overcame a fire in 1999 and is now located in Attala, Alabama in a state of the art processing facility. Alabama farmers supply them with farm raised hogs that are processed into the delicious sausage products. Dean’s now serves customers in 24 states and has built a reputation of quality with their mouth-watering products. They certainly are “hams and loins above the rest”.
