The Alabama Wine Trail

The Alabama Wine Trail

The Alabama Wine Trail, Alabama's newest tourist trail, was developed to promote the state's eight wineries.  The wineries produce a wide variety of wines ranging from regional favorites such as peach, blueberry, or muscadine wines to more traditional varieties such as chardonnay and merlot.

Many Alabama vintners hope the Alabama Wine Trail will bring more tourists to their area and through their doors.

Tom Vizzini of Vizzini Farms Winery says "We put our wines up against any... from California."  The wine business is not new to Vizzini's family. His grandfather was a vintner in Sicily, Italy.

Dana Jennings, CEO of the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association, says "[The Alabama Wine Trail] is about introducing a new tourism venue," and hopes the promotion will bring more visitors to north Alabama.

The Alabama Wine Association will produce tourism brochures listing the eight participating Alabama wineries and visitors will get a "passport" to be stamped at each winery. Anyone who visits all participating wineries will get a wine glass bearing the logo of each winery.
