Jules J. Berta Vineyards
Look out sweet tea, Alabama wine is fast becoming a favorite drink among locals and a great way to support local wineries! The wine industry in Alabama has grown dramatically over the last few years and although Berta Vineyards is one of the newest wineries, they are proud to be one of the oldest vineyards with vines ranging in age from nine to twenty one years old. Jules J. Berta Vineyards is located atop Sand Mountain in Albertville, Alabama and is owned and operated by Jules J. Berta and wife, Becky Bailey-Berta. The sandy soil and high elevation of Sand Mountain creates a unique southern climate for growing viniferous (wine) grapes and the harvest from the Berta’s five acres of vineyards proves it! The first vines were planted in 1987 by Jules Berta and in 1993 his son, Jules John Berta, moved to Alabama and developed an interest in grape growing and winemaking alongside his father. That hobby soon turned into a passion for wine making and after his father’s death, Jules J. Berta carried out his father’s plans to do what was once thought impossible; to grow grapes and make wine in Alabama! With that, Jules J. Berta Vineyards was born and today they grow a variety of grapes including: Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sylvaner and also smaller amounts of Blaufrankisch, Petit Syrah, Riesling, and Aurore grapes. Or, if you are looking for a light and refreshing wine to enjoy with friends this summer, try any of their delicious fruit wines, many of which are made from fruit grown by local Alabama farmers. You can choose from muscadine, cherry, strawberry, peach, lemon, cranberry, watermelon, plum, blackberry or blueberry.
When you buy wine made at Jules J. Berta Vineyards you are getting a firsthand experience; a true wine grape which is grown, produced, and bottled at the same location in Albertville, Alabama.
